trans-mongolian madness
according to die bahn it takes 205 hours and 35 minutes to travel from barcelona to peking (bejing...but you have to put in peking to get it to give you the schedule), and it requires changes of trains in montpellier, bussels, berlin and moscow. the first 88 hours gets you as far as moscow the last around 117 hours are spent in a compartment that looks like this
which really isn't so bad until you realize that all these people
are your roommates.
i can't imagine spending 9 or so days in transit, with 7 in one compartment. i'm sure you could catch up on reading, but that's 9 days you'll never get back.
most of my friends can't believe i looked up something so nerdy.

after looking at my post, the entire reson for which was to try out my theory on how to turn the picture into a link to a bigger picture, i am struck with how much time i waste. not only did i take the time to figure out how to link my pics (i'm sure there's some nice nerdy term for this), but i look up dorky things like barcelona to peking. maybe i could do a 9-day journey after all...as long as i had internet access.
sheena sheena sheena..... thats pretty bad, but not as bad as me, you'd be surprised how many blogs I've made and O how I've customized them from the [/tag]s to the scripts, all the css and junk. But not anymore... at least now heh, hopefully forever!
i was quite proud of myself for figuring the picture-link thing until i admitted how very basic it is. i'm trying to emerge from my webmoron cacoon and become a web-savvy butterfly, but it takes time...lots of wasted time. ;-)
Hello Sheena!
Thanks so much for your blog posts - good to read you, sorry I haven't replyed until now - I've just been crazy busy finishing off my degree (which I have done!)
It would be great to catch up with you sometime soon!
God bless,
Love Chris
would that be the same as the old famed "orient express?" it never occured to me just how long that trip would have taken.
hey kathleen. the orient express is actually another train line. it went from paris to istanbul via buapest and bucharest. in addition to the orient express and the trans-siberian railway there is also the trans-mongolain railway. the orient express was the first luxury train line.
congratulations chris!! great to hear from you! glad you're finding a bit more time. hopefully kathleen and i can catch up with you when we're there in september.
I wonder if there's such a thing as a 'travel spotter' :-)
