kc
i came, i bonded, i ate barbecue.
i'm really glad i went to kansas city this last weekend. i reconnected with people i love to see and made some new friends. i love every minute i spend with 24-7ers, and this weekend was no exception. the sense of unity and community i have around them is nearly tangible, and God always shows me so much through it. i hope to continue to connect more and more with all the people i spent time with this weekend. we're already talking about a madison - minneapolis trip in july. i can't wait.
i squeezed in a bit of the touristy and bonded with my midwestern peeps over the legendary arthur bryant's barbecue which has the reputation of being the first real barbecue joint in kc. according to my friend peter (who we affectionately call 'gunther' for no particular reason) it was established in 1609. that didn't seem quite right since the americas was just becoming acquainted with europeans at that time, but i supposed they could've landed and busted out the oil drum.
peter was so excited about going that he sang about it in the van the whole way over. it was a dive of a place, with amazing bbq served on wonder bread (not just white bread, but wonder bread - the real deal!), with lard-fried potatoes. i could hear my arteries hardening, but man was it yummy.
there are several things that i saw and realized while on this trip, but i'm a bit too tired to write them down now. i'll write more about that as i process them a bit more. for now i'm off to bed.

i forgot all about that statue. that has statue and the hill its on is very significant. i wish i could remember... something about a church and the prayer/ministry it had in the city in the early part of the last century. interesting that you chose that pic.
Sounds fun. Did you get to hook up with any of the 24-7 US base or Transit guys?
